The Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia

Discover a diversity of Australian art, including the NGV’s significant collection of First Nations art, at The Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia, at Federation Square.

In this educator-led session students will explore the way in which Australian identity, history and culture is reflected through artworks from across the continent, and from different time periods. Through engaging activities and thought-provoking discussions, students will be encouraged to ask questions and consider diverse ideas, perspectives and art forms. Ideal for a first-time visit to the NGV, this program is designed to spark curiosity and imagination, build confidence in interpreting and responding to works of art and expand students’ observational and analytical skills.

This program will be tailored to the level of the students.

Students will:

  • Discuss and analyse artworks from different cultural, historical and contemporary contexts, including works by First Nations artists.
  • Identify and discuss how artists use materials, techniques, and technologies to express meaning in their work.
  • Identify the role and purpose of the visual arts in different communities, including the role of art museums.

Duration: 1 hour
Cost: $11 per student
