Investigate the ideas, meanings and messages in artworks by Yayoi Kusama through the three Interpretive Lenses: Structural, Personal and Cultural. Consider how Kusama has developed her own unique visual language to communicate ideas that reflect her personal and cultural identity and gain confidence in developing informed interpretations of Kusama’s work.

Aligned with VCE Art Creative Practice, this program gives students an opportunity to analyse artworks by one of the world’s most recognisable artists. This program will be delivered in the Learn theatre or studio spaces and includes self-guided entry into the exhibition.

Students will:

  • Apply the Interpretive Lenses to the analysis of the ideas, meanings and messages of Kusama’s artworks
  • Develop and support interpretations of artworks with evidence taken from the artworks and with reference to a range of sources
  • Identify the way Kusama uses visual language to communicate ideas and meanings in her artworks

Duration: 45 minutes plus self-guided time in the exhibition
Cost: $24.50 per student
